TJIA to debut Kaohsiung jewellery fair in August

Organized by Taiwan Jewelry Industry Association (TJIA), 2014 Kaohsiung International Jewelry Fair will be debuted in Kaohsiung Exhibition Center from 8 to 11 August 2014, creating a platform for wholesale and retail trading. The exhibition hall will present fine jewellery, gem-quality coral, natural gemstones and international sections including about 300 booths.

Hong Kong Jewelry Manufacturers’ Association (HKJMA) is now recruiting exhibitors for the Hong Kong pavilion in the show. Wings Cheung, general manager of HKJMA noted that Taiwan is seeing a recovering economy in 2014. Hong Kong‘s precious jewellery exports to Taiwan in Q1 2014 was HK$489 million or 4 percent of total exports, increased 33.9 percent comparing to the same period of 2013. Kaohsiung, located in southern part, is the second largest city in Taiwan. With a population of about 3 million, the city is famed for ship-building, steel and technology industries. “The brand new exhibition center provides new business opportunities,” said Cheung.

Hsiao Hsin Tsai, chairman of TJIA explained customs duties and taxes of the exhibition goods and import procedures at a seminar in late May. He said that in terms of the show time, the Kaohsiung jewellery fair does not overlap other fairs in Taiwan. Moreover, Taiwan attracts more than 20,000 tourists daily from Mainland China under the individual visit scheme. Thus the new fair is meeting the market demand.

“Currently there are no import duties and taxes for finished jewellery products, only 2 to 3 percent duty for half-finished products in Taiwan. The VAT is as low as 5 percent. With the invoices, exhibitors can have VAT refund for the unsold products when leaving Taiwan after the show. If transactions are made by credit cards, 8 to 10 percent additional fees will be charged to exhibitors including 5 percent VAT and 2 to 3 percent commission charge,” he introduced.

Hsiao also reminded that exhibitors must declare the amount of foreign currencies in excess of US$10,000. For fast and easy delivery, exhibitors from Hong Kong can gather all of the products by using one logistic company and a customs broker.
