Jewelers of America Announces 2024 GEM Awards Winners

Jewelers of America (JA), the national trade association for businesses serving the fine jewellery marketplace, and the GEM Awards Committee announce the winners of the 22nd annual GEM Awards that took place on 8 March 2024 in New York City. Susan Jacques, president and CEO of Gemological Institute of America (GIA), was the recipient of the GEM Award for Lifetime Achievement. Tiffany was presented with a Special Recognition Award and Cynthia Erivo was the recipient of the GEM Award for Jewelry Style. The winners in the categories of Jewelry Design, Media Excellence and Retail Excellence were revealed live during the event.

GEM Awards honours individuals and brands whose work raises the visibility and status of fine jewellery and watches. Each GEM Award honoree and nominee has achieved excellence in their respective field. The Special Recognition Award is a new award, created by the GEM Awards Committee to shine a spotlight on a historic accomplishment by a person or brand. The GEM Award for Jewelry Style is given to an individual who increases consumer desire for jewellery through wearing fine jewellery.

“The completion of Tiffany’s holistic four-year-long interior renovation of the Fifth Avenue location, rechristened The Landmark, was the biggest jewellery event of the last year and ignited enthusiasm around the world to visit and shop at the New York City store. The GEM Awards Committee conceived of the Special Recognition Award category in order to acknowledge the achievement in a unique way. We are overjoyed Tiffany is accepting the honour and look forward to celebrating how The Landmark has raised the bar in retail at the GEM Awards,” said GEM Award Committee chair Marion Fasel.

Fasel added: “Cynthia Erivo has long captured our attention on the GEM Awards Committee with the imaginative ways she wears jewellery. On the red-carpet, during television appearances and performances on stage, she has shown time and again what a powerful form of personal expression jewellery can be. We are a thrilled beyond measure Cynthia Erivo will be accepting the style prize.”

Tiffany reopened its doors during April 2023. The newly transformed flagship on 57th Street and Fifth Avenue, now known as “The Landmark”, reintroduces the world to a new Tiffany custom artwork, never-before-seen jewels and immersive displays define the new Landmark, which is also one of the largest stores in Manhattan. The Landmark marks the luxury retail institution’s first holistic renovation of the store since it first opened its doors in 1940.

Cynthia Erivo is a trendsetting, modern style muse. On the red carpet and at appearances, she shines with bold fashion looks, heavily accented with jewellery she wears thoughtfully and in her own distinct way.
