JJA speaks at a congress in Singapore

The Hong Kong Jewellery & Jade Manufacturers Association (HKJJA) was invited to attend the 3rd Trade Association Congress held on 24 May 2014 in Singapore. King Li, HKJJA’s honorary chairman and CEO of Kings Mark Designer & Manufactory Limited, shared with the audience the growth of the association amidst challenges, and measures to assist members, mostly small and medium enterprises, in business expansion. The event was organized by the Singapore Chinese Chamber of Commerce & Industry (SCCCI).

Themed ‘partnership for innovation and growth’, the congress aimed to share experiences, views and practical operation models as well as challenges faced and overcome. Minister for trade and industry Lim Hng Kiang and minster of state for trade and industry Teo Ser Luck also attended the congress.

Established in 1965, HKJJA will be celebrating its 50th anniversary next year. “The jewellery industry in Hong Kong has been surviving global challenges all these years during which the management board and member enterprises have been forging ahead with betterments despite the ups and downs,” said King Li at the congress.

At his speech Li highlighted several milestones in the history of HKJJA including the US embargo on Hong Kong’s jade products in 1965, the successful venture into the US market in 1969, the launch of its subsidiary Hong Kong Jade & Stone Laboratory Limited in 1992, the remarkable participation in the Vicenza fair in 1994, and the active exploration of new markets started 2010s.

“An advocate of the interests of our members, HKJJA also brings benefis to the community,” Li said. The association has been an active supporter of a number of social and educational programmes initiated by the Hong Kong government such as the ‘Adopt-A-School (AAS)’ project, ‘SME Mentorship Program’, ‘Qualifications Framework’, ‘Jewellery Industry Training (JIT)’, etc. Li is also the chairman of the JIT advisory committee.
