Swiss watch brand Rado, which is known for its design-led collections, announced the Rado Star Prize Hong Kong 2018 yesterday. The prize will collaborate with DesignInspire, the international exhibition about creativity, and aims to promote up-and-coming young designers in the city, offering them a platform to show their work.
Themed ‘Design Inspired by Nature’, the prize this year focuses on the design of objects that are functional and designed for daily use with materials, textures and inspirations derived from nature.
Submitted online, entries for Rado Star Prize Hong Kong are welcome from now on till 7 October 2018, and the project should be either an industrial or product design. Participants must be aged 18-25. Entries for watches or timepieces will not be accepted.
Ten finalists and one winner of the prize will be selected by a jury of local and international design professionals. The winner will receive HK$50,000 in prize money and a Rado watch. All finalists will have the opportunity to display their entries during DesignInspire during 6-8 December 2018 at the Rado exhibition space. An additional Public’s Choice winner, selected by public voting, will receive a Rado watch.
