Sapphire necklace to lead Phillips sale in May

A rare unheated Kashmir sapphire and diamond necklace (photo 1) having an estimate of HK$17-23 million is set to lead Phillips Hong Kong’s jewellery and fei cui spring sale on 28 May 2018. A total of 156 lots will be on offer.

The necklace, set with 21 pieces of Kashmir sapphires totaling 52.20 carats with each stone cradled by diamond petals, is the first to be offered at auction in the past decade. Estimated HK$13.8-17 million, a pair of pendant earrings by Harry Winston (photo 2) featuring a 14.59-carat and a 12.54-carat Colombian Muzo no-oil emeralds and diamonds is among the big highlights which also include a 21.20-carat unheated oval Sri Lankan Padparadscha sapphire and diamond ring (photo 3), estimate HK$6.3-7.3 million.

Natural unheated Burmese rubies are always sought-after at auction. The Phillips spring sale will present a 5.19-carat unheated Burmese Mogok pigeon’s blood ruby and diamond ring (photo 4, estimate HK$3.8-5 million) and a matching pair of 3.50- and 3.24-carat ruby and diamond pendant earrings (estimate HK$4.2-5 million). Also on offer are a fine glassy jadeite cabochon and diamond necklace and earrings with 33 fei cui with even colour and excellent clarity, estimate HK$19-30 million.
