Global leaders back DEF's 'diamond do good' mission

'Diamonds in the Sky Las Vegas', organized by Diamond Empowerment Fund (DEF), has garnered phenomenal supports from the diamond and jewellery trade supporting the 'Diamond Do Good' mission.

Major leaders spanning the breadth of the diamond and jewellery industry have joined as sponsors of the gala including Rio Tinto, Signet Jewelers Ltd, and The De Beers Group of Companies as premier presenting sponsors, Chow Tai Fook Jewellery Group Limited (CTF) as premier partner sponsor, and KGK Group, Le Vian Corporation, and Tiffany & Co as premier patron sponsors, according to a DEF statement dated 15 April 2014.

DEF board member Anna Martin said: "The immediate embrace by these global leaders of the ‘Diamonds in the Sky Las Vegas’ gala signifies a momentous coming together of the industry in support of DEF’s Diamonds Do Good mission."

"In our 45th year of partnership with the people of Botswana, we are delighted to be part of this special occasion honouring the country’s unique record of success in transforming its natural resource into sustainable, broad-based development," said Philippe Mellier, CEO of De Beers.

Jean-Marc Lieberherr, managing director, Rio Tinto Diamonds said: “With this expanded mission DEF has become the industry organization that is taking the role to communicate to the consumer all the good things that diamonds do today and will continue to do tomorrow. We are honoured to support this endeavour”.

Kent Wong, CTF's managing director noted: “We are proud to be part of an industry that gives back. We salute the good works of H.E. President Khama, the Government of Botswana and the role DEF is taking to communicate this to consumers around the world.”

Diamonds in the Sky Las Vegas gala will take place on 29 May 2014 at the Four Seasons Ballroom, Las Vegas. DEF was co-founded by Russell Simmons and leaders in the diamond industry in 2007.
