De Grisogono’s necklace sold for US$33.7m

De Grisogono’s emerald and diamond necklace featuring a 163.41-carat emerald-cut diamond (photo 1) set a new world auction record of a D-colour flawless diamond at Christie’s Geneva on 14 November 2017.

The Art de Grisogono Creation 1, set with the world’s largest flawless D-colour diamond ever auctioned, achieved CHF33,500,000 (US$33,705,994) at the ‘Magnificent Jewels’ auction. Other leading lots of the sale included the 19.07-carat light pink diamond Le Grand Mazarin and a ring set with a 8.67-carat fancy intense blue diamond (photo 2) sold for CHF14,375,000 and CHF13,137,500 respectively.

During the ‘Magnificent Jewels from a European Collection’ auction on 13 November, an Art Nouveau pendant necklace by René Lalique, sold for CHF972,500, set a new world auction record for any Art Nouveau jewel and any jewellery by René Lalique.

The above-said two auctions fetched a total of CHF117,776,875.

The ‘Rare Watches’ auction dated 13 November realised a total of CHF12,758,375. The top lot was a Senza Luna by Patek Philippe ref 3448 in white gold made in 1981 (photo 3) sold for CHF972,500. (Photo courtesy: Christie’s Geneva)
