Christie’s Geneva is going to sell a de Grisogono diamond and emerald necklace featuring a 163.41-carat diamond centerpiece, the largest D-colour flawless type IIA diamond ever at auction.
The emerald-cut diamond was cut from a 404.20-carat rough recovered from the Lulo mine in Angola. Named ‘4 de Fevereiro’, the rough was bought by Fawaz Gruosi, founder of de Grisogono, and then mapped, plotted, cleaved, laser-cut and polished by a team of 10 diamond-cutting specialists in New York.
On the left side of the asymmetric necklace there are 18 emerald-cut diamonds which match with two rows of pear-shaped emeralds on the right, defining a contrasting appearance. The gold holding the emeralds is darkened to create a chiaroscuro effect which is a big feature of the brand’s creations.
The necklace will be sold at the magnificent jewels sale in Geneva on 14 November 2017 as part of ‘The Art of de Grisogono’ session. Prior to the sale, it will take a world tour started 28 September in Hong Kong. (Photo courtesy: Christie's)
