Sotheby’s HK autumn sale to feature legendary jewels

Iconic masterpieces from legendary jewellery houses including rare pieces from Cartier and Van Cleef & Arpels (VCA) are highlights of Sotheby’s Hong Kong autumn jewellery sale to be held on 3 October 2017.

The Tutti Frutti Cartier bracelet (photo 1) is an important Art Deco design set with diamonds and carved sapphires, rubies and emeralds estimated HK$10.5 – $14 million (US$1.3 – $1.8 million).

Among VCA’s four Les Voyages Extraordinaires collection rings inspired by four of Jules Verne’s novels, the Hydôr ring (photo 2) features a 20.04-carat sapphire surrounded by the swirling gradient of bright diamonds to light and dark sapphires, estimated HK$2.8 - $3.8 million.

Estimated HK$13 - $15 million, an 8.49-carat Burmese ruby and diamond ring from JAR (photo 3) demonstrates the jeweller’s attention to detail. The simple mounting allows the ruby to be in constant contact to the wearer’s skin.

Quek Chin Yeow, deputy chairman of Sotheby’s Asia and chairman of international jewellery, Asia, said, “We are extremely pleased to present a great selection of the marvellous jewels to captivate our Asian jewellery connoisseurs: From an iconic Cartier Tutti Frutti masterpiece to an amazingly rare ‘pigeon’s blood’ ruby in a revolutionary mounting by India supremo, BHAGAT, not to mention blue and pink diamonds and an array of precious gemstones. We are also delighted to offer a great rarity - The Woolworth Yard Jadeite Necklace which dates from 1957.” (Photo courtesy: Sotheby’s Hong Kong)
