Basel fair

The Baselworld 2014 came to an end on 3 April with “a positive mood for Swiss watchmaking”, claimed a closing statement from the show’s Swiss Exhibitors’ Committee on the last show-day.

For jewellery brands, business was reported brisk especially in both exceptional fine jewellery and fashion jewellery. “Demand for jewellery in rose gold and 950 palladium continues its upward trajectory, while creations that bring together different metals abound,” the reported said.

The number of visitors saw a drop over last year’s. The source said the record number in 2013 attributed to the new architecture which attracted a huge public. “The decline in quantity is, however, no great cause for concern as it was compensated by a rise in quality, which a public composed for the most part of trade visitors,” said the statement.

Official figures released on 3 April 2014: Attendees - 150,000 (including representatives from exhibiting companies, buyers, journalists and other visitors); Exhibitors - 1,500; Journalists - 4,000.

Baselworld 2015 is scheduled for 19 – 26 March.
