TDC's watch fair to open on 8 September

Co-organised by Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC), Hong Kong Watch Manufacturers Association Ltd and The Federation of Hong Kong Watch Trades & Industries Ltd, the 34thHKTDC Hong Kong Watch & Clock Fair will be held 8-12 September 2015 at Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. A press conference was held today unveiling the highlights of the show and announcing winners of the 32nd Hong Kong Watch & Clock Design Competition.

According to HKTDC's deputy executive director Benjamin Chau, Hong Kong is the world's second-largest watch exporter with HK$80.3 billion worth of watches exported in 2014, a 4.2 percent increase over 2013. The three largest markets namely Switzerland, mainland China and the United States together accounted for nearly half of the total exports, and respectively recorded a growth of 6.4, 7.7 and 2.8 percent over 2013. In terms of imports, Hong Kong imported 38.4 billion worth of watches last year, about 45 percent of which were from Switzerland.

Claimed the world’s largest of its kind by HKTDC, the 34th watch fair will be featuring more than 780 exhibitors from 23 countries and regions. Among the show highlights is Salon de TE which spotlights nearly 160 international brands in five thematic zones namely World Brand Piazza, Chic & Trendy, Craft Treasure, Renaissance Moment and Wearable Tech.

The 32nd Hong Kong Watch & Clock Design Competition received nearly 200 entries in the open and student categories under the respective themes of ‘Freedom & Peace’ and ‘Sharing’. Winning pieces will be displayed at the fair as well as at The Mira Hong Kong for public viewing from 2 to 12 September. Winners are as follows:

Champion: Chan Cheuk Yan’s MIS

1st Runner-up: Yip Pui Tung’s Lovers

2nd Runner-up: Kwok Po Yi’s Epoch
