IGI Hong Kong certifies the largest colourless synthetic diamond

International Gemological Institute (IGI) Hong Konghas recently certified a 10.02-carat square-emerald cut synthetic colourless diamond which is believed to be the world’s largest HPHT diamond. The stone, according to IGI, was cut from a record-breaking 32.26-carat piece of man-made rough, grown by New Diamond Technology LLC, St Petersburg, in less than 300 hours.

The type IIa, VS1, E stone was certified with a very good-excellent finish grade. Two months ago IGI had certified two stones from the same company at IGI Hong Kong: a five-carat radiant brilliant and a four-carat cushion brilliant. They were considered the largest grown diamonds at that time.

Marc Brauner, co-CEO IGI Worldwide, said that the 10-carat stone is unique in all aspects, and that the science and technology behind the processes synthesizing this stone are significantly more advanced than other man-made diamonds currently on the market.
