Christie’s Geneva totals US$97m

Christie’s Geneva smashed a world auction record for a Kashmir sapphire at its magnificent jewels sale held on 13 May which fetched a total of SFr91,246,875 (US$97,515,535).

The top lot went to a rectangular fancy vivid pink diamond ring of 5.18 carats which sold for SFr10,021,000 (US$10,709,442). A 35.09-carat cushion-cut Kashmir sapphire ring achieved SFr6,885,000 (US$7,357,999), setting a world auction record for a Kashmir sapphire.

The sale has witnessed a strong rise in demand for coloured gemstones and pearls, according to Rahul Kadakia, International Head of Christie's jewellery department.
