Sotheby’s jewel sale fetches HK$290,177,500

Held on 6 April 2015 in Hong Kong, Sotheby’s ‘Magnificent Jewels and Jadeite’ sale achieved HK$290,177,500 (US$37,202,244) in total. The lots had been exhibited in Shanghai, Beijing, Singapore, Taipei, Kaohsiung and Hong Kong during March and April prior to the auction. Out of the 317 lots offered in total, 213 were sold.

Sold for HK$19,880, 000 (US$2,548,178), the most expensive lot was a fine pair of diamond pendent earrings made with a pair of brilliant cut, D colour flawless and internally flawless diamonds, weighing 12.87 and 12.77 carats respectively. The 18k white gold setting is adorned with a total of 1.05 carat diamonds.

The second top sale, fetching HK$16,880,000 (US$2,164,103), was a rare pair of jadeite bangles. The natural ‘A jade’ jadeite bangles boast translucent celadon tone suffused with intense emerald green colour.

The third most expensive lot was a fine sapphire and diamond ring, which was sold for HK$16,280,000 (US$2,087,179). It features an 11.21 carat natural, unheated sapphire of Kashmir origin. The diamonds on the ring weigh approximately 1.20 carats.

Among the top 10 lots, six realised prices exceeding their high estimates. Seven of the 10 jewels were bought by Asian private buyers, two by international trade buyers and onw by Asian trade buyer.
