While showrooms are still stocking jewellery set with greenish gemstones inspired by Pantone’s 2013 featured colour ‘Emerald’ (Pantone 17-5641), the colour authority has announced ‘Radiant Orchid’ (Pantone 18-3224) as its 2014 Colour of the Year.
Radiant Orchid “blooms with confidence and warmth”, and is “a captivating, magical, enigmatic purple”, says Pantone who states the rosy undertones of the colour radiate on our skin, producing a healthy glow when worn by both sexes. According to Pantone, the colour has already been noticeable at spring 2014 fashion shows and on the red carpet. Emerson by Jackie Fraser-Swan, Juicy Couture and Yoana Baraschi were the names quoted for incorporating Radiant Orchid and its variations into their spring collections.
Gemstones in purple, violet or their variations include amethyst, chalcedony, charoite, fluorite, iolite. kunzite, lavender jadeite, purple sapphires, quartz, spinel, sugilite, tanzanite, tourmaline, etc.
