Two bangles shine at Sotheby's sale as expected

22-04-2021

The two exceptionally rare bangles auctioned at Sotheby’s Hong Kong Magnificent Jewels sale on Tuesday achieved a total of HK$77.3 million or US$9.9 million, nearly one fifth of the auction total of HK$419 million.

The Cartier 'L’Odyssée de Cartier – Parcours d’un Style' bangle (photo 1) set with a pear-shaped 63.66-carat D colour IF diamond and rock crystal featuring the brand’s exquisite artistry and craftsmanship was sold for HK$46.9 million, making it the top lot of the sale. Another highlight, a phenomenal cylindrical Burmese fei cui bangle (photo 2) of vivid emerald green colour and very good translucency realised HK$30.4 million.

Another magnificent fei cui lot, an 18-karat white gold necklace (photo 3) made up of 47 intense green fei cui beads, four fei cui hoops, ruby dividers and a diamond clasp was sold for HK$23.4 million. A pair of imperial green fei cui earrings (photo 4) sold for HK$7 million set a record for a cabochon imperial green fei cui, coming as the highest value lot sold to an online buyer in the sale.
