W&W 2021 reaches record audience

20-04-2021

Watches and Wonders 2021 came to a conclusion on Sunday after a 12-day run online and live respectively in Geneva and Shanghai. It confirms the effectiveness of the digital power and the readiness of the watchmaking industry to grow again. The shows have also identified trends for the year.

Held 7-13 April, the digital Watches and Wonders Geneva has gathered 38 exhibiting brands who contributed some 400 new releases, 500 press conferences, 300 presentations and 600 one-to-one appointments. The live version of the show in Shanghai during 14-18 April has attracted over 12,000 visitors to view new products from 19 brands from the globe. The number was twice as many as in 2020, said show organiser Fondation de la Haute Horlogerie (FHH). The two shows have reached an estimate of 500 million people, generating nearly 360,000 posts featuring the hashtag #watchsandwonders2021 across various digital platforms. “Watches and Wonders 2021 reached a record audience,” said FHH.

Sustainable watchmaking is a strong trend emerged from the shows where cases made from recycled materials, plant-based straps and solar-powered movements were widely seen. Green colour was prominent on the dials, straps and even movements of the new releases. Sport-luxe watches continued to gain momentum. When it comes to complications, tourbillons with single-, double- and inclined triple-axis variations were many watchmakers’ focus for 2021. The return of more reasonable case diameters suited to every wrist size was spotted as another major trend for the year. (Photo courtesy: FHH)
