Renowned Tiffany designer dies at 80

23-03-2021

Elsa Peretti, a celebrated Italian jewellery designer for Tiffany & Co, has died on 18 March 2021.

“A woman who was larger-than-life has touched everyone at Tiffany & Co,” said Tiffany on a statement last Friday. “Over the past nearly 50 years Elsa has created some of the most innovative jewelry and object designs in the world. Elsa explored nature with the acumen of a scientist and the vision of a sculptor.”

Peretti was a successful fashion model in the 1960s and 1970s. She joined Tiffany in 1974 and created elegant, sensuous and sculptural pieces that repositioned silver as a luxury material for jewellery. Among her iconic creations is the Bone Cuff (photo) inspired by human bones. She signed a 20-year agreement with the US brand of over US$47 million. It was reported that her designs sometimes accounted for 10 percent of Tiffany’s annual sales. (Photo courtesy: Tiffany & Co)
