Whimsical jewels at Christie’s all sold

Christie’s New York closed its online sale of jewellery by Michele della Valle with a total of US$ 799,125. All of the 65 lots offered were sold with many exceeding their low estimate.

Held 3-17 March 2021, the ‘Colorful Whimsy: Jewels by Michele della Valle’ auction. The leading lot was a pair of lemon earrings set with yellow sapphires, tsavorite garnets and diamonds (photo 1) sold for US$75,000. Another pair of earrings featuring red agates, diamonds and tsavorites (photo 2) realised US$37,500.

The Italian designer began creating costume jewellery at the age of 16. He opened his own workshop in Rome in 1978 and soon became well-known with a famous clientele including film starts and opera singers.
