Petra's 299.3-carat diamond sold at US$12.18m

Petra Diamonds sold a 299.3-carat rough diamond from the iconic Cullinan mine in January to Stargems DMCC for US$12.18 million.

 

The Type IIa white gem-quality diamond accomplished a price of US$40,701 per carat, higher than the US$34,386 per carat achieved in May 2019 by the 424.89-carat Legacy of the Cullinan Diamond Mine.

 

Petra chief executive Richard Duffy jogged reader’s memory about the last successful sale was the Letlapa Tala Collection. Five blue diamonds totalling weighing 85.6 carats were sold as a suite of stones to De Beers and Diacore for US$40.36 million in November 2020.
