GIA introduces new pearl report

14-1-2021

The Gemological Institute of America (GIA) offers new Cultured Pearl Classification Report for loose and mounted Akoya, South Sea, and Tahitian pearls, joining forces with pearl identification report and pearl identification and classification report.

The new report includes classification of cultured pearl(s) based on the GIA 7 pearl value factors: size, shape, color, luster, surface, nacre and matching, as well as a digital image of the submitted pearl(s). Any pearls found to have undergone treatments and enhancements will be changed to a pearl identification report service.

The main difference between this new report and the standard GIA offering is that it does not include identification testing, said Nellie Barnett, GIA manager of media and PR.
