Belgium diamond exports drop in Nov

17-12-2020

Belgium rough and polished diamond export in November declined 15 percent and nine percent respectively, according to the Antwerp World Diamond Centre (AWDC).

Rough exports dropped from US$957million to US$725million in October, noted a nearly 15 percent drop. Polished exports to the United States fell seven percent yoy, however, exports to the United Arab Emirates soared over 50 percent. November marked the third month in a roll of polished diamond export decrease.

Despite the revenue shrink, Antwerp-based Grib Diamonds raised US$35 million for all 450 carats diamond offered at this year’s last auction. Grib commented: “Prices were exceedingly strong with two-carat goods showing increases in the high single digits and smaller goods increasing in the low single digits. Overall prices increased by around five percent.” The sale result reflected a high interest of diamonds.
