IIDGR introduces automated melee screening device to China

The De Beers Group of Companies’ International Institute of Diamond Grading & Research (IIDGR) showcased the new automated melee screening (AMS) device to China market through the just closed Shenzhen International Jewellery Fair and Hong Kong Jewellery & Gem Fair.

The new device which can take up to 500 carats at once is a spectrometer based system that screens round brilliant diamonds from 0.01 to 0.2 carats for potential synthetics and simulants. It automatically feeds, measures and dispenses at a rate of 360 stones per hour and is the result of several years of development, testing and production.

Jonathan Kendall, president of IIDGRtold Hong Kong Jewellery that the device is now facilitated by National Gems & Jewelry Technology Administrative Centre (NGTC) and is interested by other laboratories in Mainland China.

He added: “Our proprietary equipment is used as the defacto standard by government agencies, gemology laboratories, diamantaires, jewellery manufacturers and jewellery retailers all over the world.”
