Sotheby’s displays and hammers Mellerio jewellery

11-3-2020

Sotheby’s Paris will exhibit 17 pieces from the 407-year-old Parisian Jeweler Mellerio’s heritage collection and offer 25 of its pieces at Joaillerie Paris auction on 1 April.

The exhibition scheduled to hold from 28 to 31 March showcases some of the most important commissions by the jeweler, including an 18th-century antique cameo and ruby bracelet, having the side-faces of seven Roman emperors on cameos. Another highlight is an articulated and transformable peacock feather brooch set with calibrated diamonds, sapphires and rubies surrounding a large emerald centre stone, once owned by Empress Eugénie.

The Jeweler has created heirlooms for the greatest dynasties around the world, from Queen Victoria, Jagatjit Singh, the ruling Maharaja of Kapurthala in the British Empire of India to Tsarina, spouse of last ruler of the Russian Empire. It is currently leaded by the 14th generation of the founding family whose history can be traced back as far as the 16th century.
