18-11-2019

A 1927 Art Deco bracelet by Cartier (photo 1) contains a 46.07-carat cabochon shaped Burmese sapphire realised more than US$6 million at Sotheby’s Geneva auction, sold at more than double its estimate. The bracelet attracted bids from six potential buyers and was sold to an Asian female collector.

“The magic of Art Deco continues to exert its spell on collectors around the world, with so much of tonight’s rich offering racing away,”said David Bennett worldwide chairman at Sotheby’s Jewellery division Geneva. Among the 450 jewellery pieces from Art Deco era on offer, 80 percent of lots sold and almost all of them sold between or above their estimate.

Other highlights of the sale included a 1927 Cartier emerald and diamond pendant/brooch (photo 2) and a 1937 sapphire-and-diamond clip brooch(photo 3).
