First gemstone member of RJC new Code of Practice

30-7-2019

Greenland Ruby has become a member of the Responsible Jewellery Council (RJC). The company has to achieve RJC Code of Practice, which promotes responsible ethical, human rights, social and environmental practices throughout the jewellery supply chain, by July in 2021.

RJC will send its accredited auditors for independent verification after Greenland Ruby completed its self-assessment. Based on the audit report, RJC can grant certification to the member for either one or three years.

"It has been Greenland Ruby's aim, since it began mining in 2017, to become an RJC member. With the expansion of the material scope to include coloured gems in the RJC's revised Code of Practices, it now enables us to assess our practices. By achieving RJC certification, Greenland Ruby will confirm our commitment to responsible business practices.  We look forward to beginning this process and hope to encourage other coloured gem mining operations to become certified, too." said Greenland Ruby vice president in sales and marketing Hayley Henning.

RJC has expanded its Code of Practices to include coloured gemstones (rubies, emeralds and sapphires) in April after consulting over 300 stakeholders.
