03-05-2019

The Fancy Color Research Foundation (FCRF) announced the results of the Q1 2019 fancy coloured diamond index yesterday, with the overall prices dropped by 0.2 percent. Against the backdrop of an overall decline in prices of blue and yellow diamonds, pink stones posed an increase.

Led by the three- and five-carat vivid pink categories which increase by an average of 3.1 percent, pink diamonds all saturation and sizes increase by 0.5 percent, while the rest of the categories showed no change in comparison to Q4 2018.

Although the 1.5-carat fancy blue, the 1.5-carat fancy vivid blue and the 1.5-carat fancy intense blue categories achieved a respective 3.4-percent, 1.5-percent and 3.9-percent increase, the overall blue segment decreased by 0.2 percent on average.

For the yellow segment it witnessed a 1.5-percent decrease, despite the 1.2-percent surge in the one-carat fancy yellow category.

When compared to Q1 2018, the price index of blue diamonds increased by 2.8 percent and pink by 0.6 percent. For yellow, it marked a 3.5-percent drop. (Photo courtesy: FCRF)
