Driven by a strong market for 20th century and contemporary art as well as the increased sales in Hong Kong, Phillips has recently announced an overall sale in 2018 of US$916.5 million, marking a 29-percent increase over US$708.8 million in 2017, and the highest annual total achieved for the auction house ever.
Top lots of the watch and jewellery sales in 2018 include ‘The Unicorn’ white gold chronograph watch from Rolex (photo) sold for CHF5.9 million at the Geneva watch auction on 12 May 2018 as the second highest price for a Rolex wristwatch at auction, and a fei cui cabochon and diamond necklace with matching earrings (photo) which realised HK$19.3 million at the Hong Kong jewels and jadeite auction.
