New design contest to revive Arabian heritage

The award presentation ceremony of the inaugural New Jeweller Heritage Jewellery Design Competition & Awards was held on 18 November 2017 during the VOD Dubai International Jewellery Show.

Aimed to revive the heritage, tradition and culture of the Arab world, the competition attracted young and talented jewellery designers from 14 countries and regions. Top 10 winners were awarded at the ceremony where their winning designs, manufactured by Jawhara Jewellery Group, were displayed.

The judging panel of the contest comprised of Tamjid Abdullah, Dy CEO and board of director of Jawhara Jewellery Group, Nirupa Bhat, managing director GIA India and the Middle East, Laila Suhail, CEO of Dubai Design and Fashion Council, Aisha Rashid, head of precious metals and stones department, Dubai Central Laboratory, and Naida Akaeva, assistant professor of Zayed University.

A Subramanian, convenor of the contest and editor of The New Jeweller Group, said: “The first edition of The New Jeweller Heritage Design Competition & Awards has brought together jewellery designers from over 14 countries and regions worldwide in a single platform and this phenomenon is only going to grow in the coming years. It is important to take the heritage jewellery designs of the UAE and the Arab world globally to renew its position of supremacy.”
