60th BGJF to stage in September

The 60th Bangkok Gems & Jewelry Fair will be held 6-10 September 2017 at Impact Exhibition Centre, Bangkok, Thailand. A total of 1,000 exhibitors from around the globe occupying 2,500 booths will be welcoming international trade partners to the one-stop production and trading hub of fine gemstones and jewellery.

The five-day event will showcase the country’s signature products particularly coloured gemstones of which Thailand is the world’s leading producer. Others include silver jewellery of which Thailand ranks second in world exports, and gold jewellery which has won the country international fame for its intricacy and outstanding quality, according to the Department of International Trade Promotion (DITP), the show organiser.

The fair will highlight a wide array of precious and semi-precious gemstones, rough stones, diamonds, pearls, precious metals, synthetic stones, costume and fashion jewellery, fine jewellery, gold jewellery, silver jewellery, display and packaging, equipment and tools, jewellery parts, machinery, etc.

Malee Choklumlerd, DITP’s director general, said that the event promises strong participation of the private sector including the Gem and Jewelry Industry Club of the Federation of Thai Industries, the Gold Traders Association, and the Thai Niello & Silver Wares Association under Royal Patronage. She said: “A series of teleconference sessions have been held and Thai trade offices in every continent have been instructed to establish a strategy to bring in leading producers, major buyers and potential trade partners to participate in the upcoming Bangkok Gems & Jewelry Fair.”

She is confident that the cabinet resolution on gems and jewellery import duty exemption will greatly enhance the competitiveness of the industry. The zero import tax scheme will attract more gems and jewellery producers, buyers, importers and traders to do business in the country as well as participating in the fair.
