Automated grinding & polishing solution

Developed by Barcelona-based GPA Innova, the Murua series offers jewellers completely automated solution from cast to mirror-finish polishing for gold, silver and brass alloys in one step, with the capacity of polishing about three pieces in one hour. Designed to shorten time spent on surface finishing, it allows more time for goldsmiths to perfect their designs. Pau Sarsanedas, R&D and general manager of GPA Innova says currently their major markets are the United States and Thailand, while they are also developing the China market.

Utilising the mechanical galvanic passive layer technology, polishing with the Murua machine is carried out by a high-energy extraction process. Polishing action could reach all corners and locations of the pieces without the need to remove any set gemstones. All non-conductive materials will not be affected. Unlike hand polishing processes, this polishing machine is able to maintain the geometry of the jewellery without rounding any edges. Furthermore, the extracted metal is deposited in the cathode from where they could be recovered.

To use the machine, simply load the pieces to be polished onto the jewellery holder, immerse in the special liquid designed for each type of metal and load it into the machine for the automated process to run. Each component of the machine could be purchased individually according to the users’ needs. The price of the main machine ranges from 4,400 to 5,000 euro. The price of the liquid kit ranges from 450 to 600 euro and that of the jewellery holder ranges from 500 to 550 euro.

The fully automated process does not require an expert to operate. Without the need of abrasives in polishing, it also helps jewellers save costs. Lastly, as no harmful chemicals are used in the polishing and extraction processes, it is an environmentally friendly choice as well.
