118-carat stone sets white diamond record

Sotheby’s Hong Kong magnificent jewels and jadeite autumn sale 2013 was held on 7 October. A 118.28-carat D flawless oval diamond achieved HK$238.68 million. “The biggest diamond ever sold at auction has set the world record for any white diamond at auction”, said the auction house. The next top lot went to a double-strand jadeite bead necklace which was sold for HK$42.68 million. Equally notable at the auction was the Premier Blue 7.59-carat fancy vivid blue diamond. It was unsold due to the below-estimate biddings.
