Expansion to meet growing demand for customisation

Under the current tough economic situation, jewellery consumers put more emphasis on the uniqueness and quality of jewellery. Having seen this, Hong Kong-based Goldenage International Limited, Asia’s premier findings manufacturer and custom jewellery house, opened a new workshop in Hong Kong for custom fine jewellery production and repair at the end of July 2016, catering to this niche market.

As a new extension of their custom jewellery division, the workshop is based on the company’s essential B2B services. Equipped with an in-house design team of nearly 50 on-site master craftsmen, this new facility offers CAD/CAM, micro-setting, channel-setting, bead-setting and claw-setting, laser-cutting, engraving, polishing and plating services all in one location with no minimum orders.

According to company CEO Andrew Cochineas, given that Goldenage International has built solid partnerships with a number of international and local jewellery brands producing custom fine jewellery, this expanded division will enable the company to fully cater to their requirements, and it also offers convenient services for Hong Kong’s jewellery retailers who require high-quality and efficient jewellery repair services, including resizing, setting, plating and engraving.

“The focus of this workshop is on high-quality and efficient production, but not cookie-cutter mass production,” Cochineas told Hong Kong Jewellery. “The jewellery market in the globe is more competitive than ever. A ‘one size fits all’ approach to mass jewellery production is a thing of the past. The industry’s systemic shift to customised quality production is probably the most noticeable observation that we have made, coupled with the increasing importance of online jewellery sales which underpins consumers’ urgent need for the flexibility on minimum order quantities (MOQs) and shortening lead times.”

Targeting upper-middle and high-end custom jewellery design and manufacturing segments for both Hong Kong and overseas jewellery markets, Cochineas thinks that Goldenage International is different from most jewellery manufacturers as they do not go for mass production. With an emphasis on traditional manufacturing techniques combined with the latest rapid prototyping technology, each piece of jewellery that they provide is its own miniature masterpiece, produced by qualified master craftsmen, he said.

Goldenage International participates in all major jewellery fairs worldwide. Notwithstanding the difficult market situation, the company experienced strong sales and substantial growth in all of their main markets with particular strength noted in North America.

Cochineas summarises the company’s success in three words: quality, timeliness and experience. Not only are their findings and custom jewellery recognised globally for the quality, they are also renowned for the efficiency in supply with standard findings being dispatched on the day of order and custom jewellery within 14 days of order. “Fundamentally, having the right and trained jewellery production force is the secret to our success,” he added.

Regarding the company’s future plans, Andrew Cochineas said: “We will continue to invest in accordance with our commitment to high quality jewellery findings and custom jewellery, by developing market leading production teams and equip them with the latest technology.” (Photo courtesy: Goldenage International Limited)
