Bonhams London's fine jewellery sale on 5 December 2015 achieved £6.79 million (US$10.2 million) with three world auction records set. A 2.97-carat fancy greyish-blue step-cut diamond ring designed by Andrew Grima sold for £1.48 million (US$2.2 million) which set a new world record price per carat for a fancy greyish-blue diamond and a new world record for a Grima design. Rubies were among the stars of the auction. A 10.28-carat Madagascan ruby sold for £236,000 (US$356,000) set a new world record for carat price for a ruby. The other top lot, a pair of Kashmir sapphire earrings, 7.92 carats and 7.96 carats, achieved £1.54 million (US$2.3 million). Cited the popularity of coloured stones and diamonds this year, Jean Ghika, director of jewellery for UK and Europe for Bonhams anticipated “2016 to be very much the year of colour”.
