Trendsetting Vicenzaoro records positive attendance

Organised by Fiera di Vicenza (FdV), the international gold and jewellery trade show Vicenzaoro January was held 22-27 January 2016, drawing 19,381 buyers and over 35,000 visitors, marking an overall five-percent traffic increase over the last edition. The presence of 1,500 brands’ new products from 31 countries and regions attracted 8,774 overseas buyers (five-percent increase) from 130 countries and regions and 10,607 local traders (4.3-percent up) to the show.

The show recorded a good number of buyers from the Middle East, Egypt, Iran and the UAE which are Italy’s major trade partners. Strong growth in the volume of buyers was also witnessed from almost all Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), EU, the United States, India, Thailand, Australia, and many Latin American countries, while buyers from mainland China and Hong Kong declined, said FdV.

Matteo Marzotto, president of FdV, said: “We are particularly pleased with the results in terms of visitor figures for this Vicenzaoro. It is the payoff for the hard work of the last few years in terms of investment, vision, innovative format and the creation of an expanded expert network.”

Brought back the format of Vicenzaoro The Boutique ShowTM which was first introduced in January 2015, exhibitors were grouped into six clusters including Icon, Creation, Look, Essence, Expression, and Evolution. T-GOLD, the international show dedicated to machinery and technology for use in the gold and jewellery industry, was located inside the Evolution district with 133 exhibitors of which 111 were Italian companies. Hong Kong Pavilion, organised by the Hong Kong Jewellery & Jade Manufacturers Association (HKJJA), was located in Hall 3.1, the International Halls. Among the important events and projects at the fair was the project partnered up with the City Council of Vicenza ‘The Art of Style’ which involves a cycle of four exhibitions between 2017 and 2020, exploring the relationship amongst art, jewellery and fashion, to follow one another set in the Palladian Basilica. On the second show day, Trendvision Jewellery + Forecasting presented a seminar on the consumer profile for 2016-17. Besides, the exhibition ‘Skin: the surfaces of jewellery’ organised by FdV at the Vicenza jewellery museum - Museo del Gioiello is open to the public until 1 May 2016, showcasing works by over 70 established Italian and international artists and jewellery designers, illustrating their different interpretations of surfaces in contemporary jewellery. Carlo Quadri Mariani from Milan-based Mariani which was founded in 1878 told Hong Kong Jewellery, Vicenzaoro January is a trendsetting exhibition for the year ahead, showing a whole picture of the jewellery industry and market. He said that it is an important platform where practitioners can work out their future plans with partners and understand the possibilities and evolutions in the market.

Roberto Spinoglio from Gabriella Rivalta, specialised in handcrafted and painted jewellery with enamel, held a similar view on the trend-setting show, and expressed that Vicenzaoro January is a good chance for local jewellers, traders, and manufacturers to meet new customers around the world and get feedbacks from old clients. He also revealed that they have signed new contracts with some Asian buyers at the fair.

“Vicenzaoro has become a wonderful show with a full offer of products from high-end jewellery to any type of materials such as loose stones and semi-finished products. The winter edition also includes T-GOLD, bringing technology updates for visitors,” expressed Elisabetta Molina Valerani, owner of Valenza-based Garavelli Aldo. Nevertheless, she showed her concern that “the show did not attract enough high-quality buyers for more economic benefits.”

The next Vicenzaoro show is the second Vicenzaoro Dubai from 14 to 17 April 2016 at the Dubai World Trade Centre.
