Important gems drive New York sale

Sotheby’s New York fetched a total of US$52 million for its final jewellery sale of 2015 on 9 December when fierce biddings for important diamonds, coloured stones and historic designs were seen. A 25.87-carat rare sugarloaf cabochon Kashmir sapphire platinum ring sold for US$5.1 million claimed the top lot. Another highlight from the auction was an historic diamond platinum necklace from Van Cleef & Arpels (photo) which achieved US$4.3 million. The necklace was formerly owned by Queen Nazli of Egypt. A Bulgari platinum brooch featured a 2.86-carat fancy vivid yellow diamond, a 2.47-carat fancy intense blue diamond and a 2.09-carat fancy intense bluish-green diamond was sold at nearly US$1.8 million.
