“Our secret is the chain,” said Valentina Bertoldo of Fope, Italy.

Launched in 1929 by Umberto Cazzola, the Vicenza-based family business has evolved into an internationally-acclaimed high jewellery brand feted for its iconic styles, exquisite craftsmanship and the precision of the machines. The Novecento mesh chain design, a fine, dexterous weave of tubular gold elements used in most of its collections, holds the secret of Fope’s success.

Fope has a strong link to its roots and tradition of high quality goldsmithing while making huge investment in innovation in terms of design and technology, said Bertoldo. “The company has managed to keep crafting its signature elegant and intrinsic Italian fine jewellery which is entirely made in-house with love and passion,” she added.

New collections come in every year and design consistency is key to making every item easily recognisable as Fope’s. The brand’s principal collections include: ‘900’ using Novecento 18-karat gold mesh; the revolutionary patented flexible ‘Flex’it’ made entirely of 18-karat gold including clasp-free bracelets that roll effortlessly onto the wrist; ‘Silverfope’ made in an exclusive and lustrous silver alloy with high palladium content; the luxury line ‘MiaLuce’, etc.

Fope’s jewellery has gained wide acceptance all over the world. Apart from gaining a strong foothold in the home country, it is well-received in central Europe, particularly in the UK and Germany, while the United States and the Caribbean are among the major markets. “We are happy that we just started to sell in the UAE, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, Hong Kong and Vietnam,” Bertoldo said.

All these years Fope has partnered up with selected local jewellers in every market working with them directly without middleman. In November 2015, the brand opened the first flagship boutique in Piazza San Marco , Venice. “We have chosen a strategic position which gives our brand an incredible visibility in one of the most beautiful destinations in the world, but most of all we have opened our first boutique in Venice because this is where our roots are. This is where Italy can be experienced at its best in an unparalleled meeting of history, art and new cultures,” according to Fope.

‘Sustainability’ has rooted in the culture of Fope even before it became “trendy”, said Bertoldo. “Sustainability has always represented a core value in the company philosophy, even when it has not been the main topic of international forums... Basically being sustainable means focusing on the fact that we are part of a bigger system. We take care of our workforce, respect the planet, and craft jewellery that can be worn with pride and a light heart,” she said.
