Christie’s Geneva totals US$97m

Christie’s Geneva smashed a world auction record for a Kashmir sapphire at its magnificent jewels sale held on 13 May which fetched a total of SFr91 million (US$97.5 million). The top lot went to a rectangular fancy vivid pink diamond ring of 5.18 carats which sold for SFr10 million (US$10.7 million). A 35.09-carat cushion-cut Kashmir sapphire ring achieved SFr6.88 million (US$7 million), setting a world auction record for a Kashmir sapphire. The sale has witnessed a strong rise in demand for coloured gemstones and pearls, according to Rahul Kadakia, international head of Christie's jewellery department.
