At BGJF54, the spirit of ASEAN also extended to Ploi Thai, an initiative spearheaded by Somchai Phornchindarak to promote gems and jewellery design and production in Thailand.
The Ploi Thai Jewelry Creation displayed during BGJF54 was one-of-a-kind pieces that featured the creativity and craftsmanship of Thai artists and craftsmen with unlimited skills and imagination.
“This (The Ploi Thai Jewelry Creation) is to prepare and create awareness for Thailand’s gems and jewellerhy industry as we step towards the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) integration in 2015,” said Somchai.
The best designs of the 2014 creation included Beauty Gems Factory’s Moon Muay Phom necklace and earrings inspired by the floral hair pieces on Burmese women, Dhevan Dara’s Thailand the Center of AEC necklace and earrings, and Gem Production’s Malai necklace.
