JJA awards propagate Japanese culture

Organised by the Japan Jewellery Association (JJA), the annual JJA Jewellery Design Awards aims to seek out the finest in Japanese jewellery and promote further expansion of Japan’s jewellery culture on the international stage. Winners of the 2014 edition were announced during the Japan Jewellery Fair in August.

The Awards is divided into three categories: Professional, whose jewellery leads the current field in design, technique and quality; Theme, whose jewellery shall be designed based on a set theme “Bonds of Love” (Tsunagari-Ai in Japanese); and New Talent, exclusively for young designers and students whose jewellery embodies a freedom of expression. A total of 189 jewellery pieces from 120 entries were submitted for the Awards.

The winning pieces were displayed at the Japan Jewellery Fair and the September Hong Kong Jewellery and Gem Fair this year.
