A 392-carat sapphire sets new record

hristie’s magnificent jewellery sale in Geneva on 11 November achieved a total of SFr147.2 million or approximately HK$1.16 billion, marking the highest total for any magnificent jewellery sale in the world. The 392.52-carat sapphire, The Blue Belle of Asia (photo), was bought for SFr16.9 million or approximately HK$133.4 million, a new world price for any sapphire sold at auction. The second top lot was a pair of diamond ear pendants set with a pear-shaped fancy vivid blue and a fancy vivid pink diamond sold for SFr15.5 million or approximately HK$122 million.

Sarah Brightman’s Cartier tigers, formerly the collection of the Duchess of Windsor, was acquired for SFr3 million or approximately HK$24.2 million. The artist intends to offer a portion of the sale proceeds to the Andrew Lloyd Webber Foundation.
