The Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Shenzhen Rough Diamond Exchange (SRDE) and announced plans to set up an office in China at the India International Jewellery Show 2018 in Mumbai to tap the fast-growing Chinese diamond market.
In 2017, the bilateral trade in the gems and jewellery sector had reached US$21.41 billion, a growth of 29 percent yoy. Guo Xiao Fei, Secretary General of Shenzhen Gold and Jewellery Association sees diamond jewellery consumption as nearly 10 million marriages take place each year, China is expected to provide opportunity for India.
