PGI sees need of changes in Chinese market

25-7-2018

Platinum Guild International (PGI) announced its first insight report. Platinum jewellery accounts for about 70 percent of China’s platinum demand. Over 12 million pieces sold each year. However, 80 percent of platinum jewellery in China are unbranded products, differs from mature markets like Japan, the United States and Europe. With potential customers look for distinctive designs, this business model requires changes. Still, PGI sees a 350,000 ounces of platinum demand recorded in the bridal jewellery market of lower-tier cities and a 270,000 ounces demand for post-bridal gift.

A number of platinum jewellery retailers have made strategic changes in Chinese market. Those retailers will be in a relatively favourable position to expand their platinum jewellery business to other segments.
