Christie’s Geneva sale achieves highest total ever

Christie’s magnificent jewellery sale on 14 May 2014 in Geneva achieved a record price per carat for a blue diamond. The 13.22-carat blue diamond was sold to Harry Winston for SFr21,445,000 or US$23,795,372. The buyer has named the world’s largest flawless fancy vivid blue gem The Winston Blue.

“In January 2013 we purchased Harry Winston and since then my ambition has been to acquire the most desirable and unique gems. When Christie’s announced they were offering the largest flawless fancy-vivid blue the GIA had ever graded, I had to buy it. Today,” said Nayla Hayek, Harry Winston’s CEO.

Rahul Kadakia, international head of Christie’s jewellery department, said: “Harry Winston continued buying the best at Christie’s with their acquisition of The Winston Blue.”

The sale has realized a total of SFr138,963,250 or US$154,193,622, marking the highest total ever for a jewellery sale in auction history.

Four world prices were also achieved during the sale: world auction record for a light pink diamond, a blue-green diamond, an alexandrite, and a pink sapphire.
