Alrosa sales dip in 2017

15-01-2018

According to preliminary figures, Alrosa’s rough diamonds and polished diamonds were sold for US$4.17 billion and US$96.9 million respectively. Combined rough and polished sales were US$4.27 billion altogether in 2017. The sales dipped 5 percent compared to 2016.

“The average price of rough diamonds sold by Alrosa was a little lower than a year ago, which is due to the changed sales assortment resulting from the increased demand for small-sized rough diamonds from the Indian diamond cutting sector in the first half of 2017,” conveyed Alrosa vice president Yury Okoemov.

Alrosa’s sold US$237.8 million worth of rough and polished diamonds only in December, which grew 35 percent year on year. Rough diamond sales amounted to US$ 228.3 million and polished diamond sales were US$9.5 million.

“We expect that in 2018 the diamond market will be balanced due to a moderate growth in the global demand for diamond jewellery and no major change in the global diamond mining,” Yury Okoemov, Alrosa vice president stated.
