Lucapa kicks off 2018 with two large diamonds discovery

Australia’s Lucapa Diamond Ltd. (Lucapa) unearthed two massive diamonds at its Lulo mine in Angola. The recoveries include two diamonds weighing 103 carats and 83 carats which are a light brown diamond and a type IIa diamond respectively.

 

The 103 carats diamond is the ninth diamond recovered, which weighed over 100 carats since Lulo commencing mining operations in 2015. “The latest large stone recoveries follow the recovery in November 2017 of two exceptional Type IIa D-colour gems weighing 129 carats and 78 carats,” Lucapa restated.

 

Lulo has established a reputation for unearthing massive diamonds. Miners in Lulo recovered a 404 carats diamond recovered on 4-2-2016 is the largest ever found in the southern African nation of Angola. According to Lucapa, it is the 27th biggest diamond ever recorded in the world and sold for US$16 million in 2016.
