HRD Antwerp launches credit card-sized grading report

27-10-2017

HRD Antwerp released ID Card, an affordable, new type of grading report for diamonds that weigh 0.08-0.998 carat on 26 October 2017. With the new product, the lab aims to bring a comprehensive solution to one of the diamond market’s main current challenges – ensuring customer confidence in small-sized diamonds.

The credit card-sized grading report is available in two versions, depending on the weight of the stone submitted for grading. ID Card is issued for diamonds ranging from 0.08 carat to 0.298 carat, and offers a description of the diamond’s colour, clarity, proportions and fluorescence. ID Card Plus is produced for diamonds ranging from 0.3 carat to 0.998 carat, and includes a description of the diamond’s colour, clarity, proportions, symmetry, polish and fluorescence.

“Indeed, 99 percent of the polished diamonds traded annually in the world are below 0.3 carat, but the overwhelming majority of these diamonds are not graded because the cost of grading them cuts too deeply into their profit margin,” said Michel Janssens, CEO of HRD Antwerp. “With these ID Cards, we aim to help the industry ensure complete confidence in all diamonds, while taking into account the lower margins achievable on these goods and reducing the cost of grading them.”

ID Card grading reports are available on request at HRD Antwerp’s diamond and jewellery labs in Antwerp and Istanbul, and will be available at their Mumbai diamond and jewellery lab before year end.
