Alessio Boschi shares secrets to success

Known for his whimsical and out-of-the-box jewellery pieces, award winning jewellery designer Alessio Boschi was invited to share insights into jewellery branding and design during the debut Thailand Gems & Jewelry Fair 2017 on 16 June 2017 at Impact Challenger, Bangkok.

Boschi’s Homage to Renaissance earrings and necklace set recently won the Aesthetics Award in the International Jewellery Design Excellence Awards 2017. Another example of his boundless creativity and enthusiasm in architecture is the Bridge of Sighs ring. When the top part of the bridge is opened it reveals a touching scene where a lady farewells her lover who was being taken away by a guard.

Proficient in four languages (Italian, English, French and Greek) and with 27 years of experience in the jewellery industry, the Italian designer chose to base his business and production in Bangkok after working in Italy, France, Greece, Hong Kong, mainland China, Thailand and Australia.

To Alessio Boschi, the attraction of Thailand is not limited to its beautiful beaches and friendly people. The country is also business-friendly with a relatively easy business starting process and a fair taxation system. Free trade agreements between Thailand and countries including Australia, Canada and India also facilitate trade. Availability of coloured gemstones of every shade, relatively low costs of labour and proximity to tax free regions such as Hong Kong and major and emerging Asian markets are other strong reasons for manufacturers to set up their business in the country.

For companies that wish to establish their own brands, Alessio Boschi advises them to emphasise on quality craftsmanship and quality control and utilise social media in a smart way. In particular, he stressed the need to build a design team that could quickly adapt to customer requestsand market trends. Often designers do not participate in the sales process yet Boschi advocates the opposite. He suggests companies to focus on one designer with good communication skills to actively engage with clients so that the design team could accurately understand the customer in order to perfect the design.

Towards designers, Boschi repeatedly pointed out that curiosity is the main drive behind creativity. Designers should keep themselves abreast of domestic and international news that could adversely affect or favour work situations. They should always try to go into the details of their job duties to understand the goal of their companies and bosses. Furthermore, language is key to doing business so Thai designers must master English whereas additional languages such as Chinese, Arabic and Russian could be useful for opening new markets.
