The largest violet diamond from Argyle revealed

Rio Tinto’s Argyle Pink Diamonds has recently unveiled the largest violet diamond ever recovered from its Argyle mine in Australia.

Known as The Argyle Violet, the 2.83-carat oval-shaped diamond will be available at the 2016 Argyle Pink Diamonds Tender. “We are very excited to announce this historic diamond ahead of our Tender launch. This stunning violet diamond will capture the imagination of the world’s leading collectors and connoisseurs,” said manager of Argyle Pink Diamonds Josephine Johnson.

Assessed by the Gemological Institute of America (GIA), the fancy deep greyish bluish violet diamond was polished in Western Australia by an Argyle’s master polisher from a 9.17-carat rough discovered in 2015.

The Argyle mine is the world’s only source of hydrogen-rich violet diamonds, said Rio Tinto. In 32 years Argyle has produced 12 carats of polished violet diamonds for its tender.

The tender will start its private trade viewings in June, travelling to Copenhagen, Hong Kong and New York.
