PGI head office in Hong Kong officially opens

Platinum Guild International (PGI) held an opening ceremony on September 21, 2015 at its newly relocated global head office in Hong Kong, inviting partners from trade, media, retailers and manufacturers to celebrate the official unveiling with the PGI team.

Hong Kong’s dynamic economy, strategic location at the crossroads of Asia, and its increasingly important role as an international jewellery trading hub make it an ideal location for the global head office of PGI. The relocation of PGI’s head office to Hong Kong allows the organisation to stay closer to the two main markets of China and Japan and the fast growing Indian market. It also reflects the growing importance of platinum demand in Asia, as well as the organisation’s direction to work more closely with leading retailers and manufacturers in the region, which accounts of 85 percent of total consumer demand for platinum jewellery according to statistics.

Huw Daniel, Global CEO of PGI said: “China has been the leading market for platinum jewellery consumption during the past decade and we continue our focus for the long term.  A head office based in Hong Kong will be better placed to lead and support the local market teams, develop deeper ties with our key manufacturing and retail partners, and aid in identifying further opportunities for platinum jewellery both within China and the region.”

PGI was founded in 1975 and has its representative offices in a number of countries. PGI has specialist teams dedicated to developing demand for platinum jewellery through consumer and trade facing programmes in the four key jewellery markets of China, India, Japan and the United States. In China, PGI works to cultivate and guide Chinese consumers’ passion for platinum jewellery by providing a full range of support to promote the local platinum jewellery industry.
